CATTLE FARMING
Shield H Angus is a small, husband/wife owned operation
located in the heart of the Wind River Basin near Riverton, Wyoming.
We are dedicated to providing the highest quality Angus cattle through sustainable and ethical farming and ranching practices. The bulk of our herd spends the beautiful Wyoming summers in the open country of a ranch we lease near Alcova Reservoir. Fresh, clear water from a natural spring feeds both Horse Creek and Fish Creek on the ranch where our herd can enjoy long, peaceful days raising each year’s calves. We gather and sort the calf crop off in the late fall; calves go directly to the sale barn where they consistently top the sale each year. Once winter weather starts to show, we gather and haul the cows to spend the season on our corn and hay fields where the weather is typically more mild closer to home. Calving begins the middle of March, once the days really start getting longer and warmer… and the cycle begins again!
Our Philosophy
At Shield H Angus, we believe in working with nature, not against it. Our mission is to raise healthy, viable Black Angus cattle that produce exceptional beef. We chose Black Angus cattle because they are well known for their high-quality, flavorful, and tender beef, excellent marbling, juiciness, and consistency, making them a top choice for both consumers and the beef industry. Beyond their wonderful meat, we value them for their adaptability, their strong maternal traits, calving ease, and docile temperaments which contribute to our overall herd profitability and efficiency in Wyoming’s challenging climate and forage conditions.
