PROSPECTS
In the horse world, a prospect is a young or inexperienced horse that shows strong potential for success in a specific discipline but has not yet fully proven itself in competition.
A prospect is typically evaluated based on:
- Pedigree – Bloodlines known for performance in a certain discipline.
- Conformation – Correct structure, balance, and athletic build.
- Movement – Natural way of traveling, stride length, fluidity, and athletic ability.
- Disposition – Trainability, temperament, willingness, and mind.
- Early training indicators – How the horse responds to groundwork, riding, or early skill introduction.
For example:
- A reining prospect may show natural stops, strong hind-end engagement, and a quiet, willing mind.
- A barrel prospect may demonstrate speed, agility, and quick footwork.
- A cow horse prospect might show strong cow sense and athletic maneuverability.
A prospect is not yet a finished or seasoned performance horse. Instead, it is an investment in future potential. Buyers often purchase our prospects with the goal of training and developing them into competitive or reliable performance horses.
